Iceland - motorcycle adventure

“The landscape is desolate, barren and stunning! Iceland gave me challenges, adventure and driving pleasure which I never experienced on a motorcycle before!”

Jens Mårtensson – Participant Iceland Experience

Driving your motorbike through Iceland is like an expedition through ancient landscapes, which are truly unique in Europe. It’s an exciting motorbike tour where you will experience different aspects of great nature. We will drive on gravel roads as much as possible, crossing the inhospitable and deserted highlands of Iceland twice and that’s only doable by 4WD or an adventure bike! Corsica & Sardinia Experience

Two pearls of islands in the Mediterranean. Both with their own unique nature and cultures, being French and Italian. With its stunning seaside scenery and snowcapped mountains, Corsica lives up to the label, “Island of Beauty.” Dramatic cliffs, curvy roads -there is not a single straight road to find- high mountains, and beautiful beaches. Along the coast are many lovely port towns, and the hillsides are dotted with picturesque villages like Bonifacio and Porto Vecchio.

Tourists seeing Sardinia for the first time are surprised to discover that an island so well known for its outstanding beaches can be so rugged and mountainous only a few kilometers from the wave-washed sands. The other thing that may surprise you is the staggering number of prehistoric sites, especially the enigmatic round stone towers known as nuraghi. Besides this it has a network of great gravel roads that gives pleasure for novice and experienced riders!

In June 2016 we will have our reconnaissance. So stay tuned for some more info and spectacular pictures!

Peru – High Andes Experience

Machu Picchu

One of our personal favorite destinations during our own six months trip through North- Central and South America. All the different climate-zones, from moist and warm jungle to high mountain ranges to the dry dessert coast-line. And not to forget exploring the cultural in-heritage from the Incas and the Spanish in Machu Picchu, Cuzco or the mystical Nasca lines.

The coastal dessert. Mind-goggling are the high peaks on the Altoplano, or the floating villages on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Driving over wide-stretched planes with herds of llamas and wild vicuñas over the Altiplano under a stale-blue sky at an average hight of  4.000 meters above sea level is an experience never to forget. See the mighty Andean condor soaring over your head in Colca Canyon. It’s all possible to do it yourself during this experience filled with only highlights!

Driving is on asphalt and this tour is suitable for riding with a passenger.

DATE: 11 – 27 September 2016

Some of the highlights:

 Machu Picchu, the hidden city
Coastal desert, the driest in the world
Cusco, a city with a mix of Inca and Spanish influences
Lake Titicaca, with the floating villages
2 days in Amazone ‘primary’ rainforest (all inclusive in a jungle lodge)
“Tail of the dragon”, 600 km of curvy smooth asfalt
Islas Ballestas (Poor-man’s-Galapagos-Islands)
Colca Canyon, meet the mighty Condor
Arequipa, charming white town in the south
Altiplano, ride at 4000 meter above sea-level
Nasca lines, it’s still a mystery!

Raw & Real

Do you want to join the real adventure?

A small amount of people (max 2-3 persons) can join us on our reconnaissance trips. Not everything has been arranged in detail, we are self sufficient and travel light. The route has been generally planned but has to be explored further. So, we might take a wrong turn, sleep in unknown places or face some other struggles on our way. But your help and teamwork is essential. Your input is needed to give us direct feedback for coming trips.

Do you need a hot shower and WiFi every day? Then this isn’t your kind of trip. We will stay on at home-stays, in small guesthouses, hostels, or out in the middle of nowhere. But if you have a flexible attitude, an open mind towards different cultures and are looking for a healthy dose of adventure, you might want to join us!

Chris Wilthuis

Combining two passions: traveling and driving a motorcycle. An unbeatable combination that led me to more than 40 countries by motorbike the last ten years. The feeling of freedom and really being in the present when my bike, the road and environment are in harmony with each other, is what I enjoy most. Traveling means to me to broaden my horizon, deepen my perspectives and meeting the unknown and new people. To experience a wide variety of cultures, lifestyles, scenery and adventure, and off course to go for a ride!

In 2011 I ended my 16-year career as an officer in the Netherlands Air Force and immigrated to Sweden. Being only 39-years ‘young’ I decided to take the jump: to combine my passions with my former job experience in the military and more than 20 years of travel-experience around the world. Until now, not a single day of regret and only more eager to explore those hidden gems of our beautiful planet!

Anna Björsson

I always have enjoyed traveling. However, meeting Chris meant getting introduced into the world of motorbikes, which added another dimension to exploring the world. Whether it’s for my work or for pleasure: traveling thrills me! Since our six months long trip through North, Central- and South America on our motorbikes in 2011, I’m convinced that driving your bike is one of the best ways to discover our planet. So, as often as possible I will come along as support crew or as one of the riders.

Bild JonFrom owner of a gingerbread factory to the mining industry, Jon has done it all and has lots of experience in the Swedish industry on different management positions. He learned to walk on gravel up in the North of Sweden, but he is even harder to beat on tarmac. On the race track even faster and that is his real passion!

But since he retired early he got hit by the travel bug. In 2014 he drove with three other guys on their bikes from Sweden via China to Thailand for three months. Then followed by Kenya and Tanzania, Morocco, Spain, Norway and Iceland. Nowadays as  a “time-millionaire” he divides his time between his grandchildren, racing, enduro riding, hunting, fishing and his work as a tour guide.

Elving SolliA gravel-guru and a legend in Sweden and Norway amongst off-road enthusiasts! He worked for many years for SMC, the Swedish Motorcycle Association, as tour-guide and a journalist for motorcycle magazines. Spending time nowadays with his family and grand-children, fishing and of course riding his bike(s) all year around.

With more then 40 years of experience of gravel riding in Sweden and Norway, he knows what gravel riding is all about as nobody else. There are no secret tracks, water passages or gravel roads for him in Sweden and Norway! This means he can easily adapt the routes to the level of riding skills or when weather conditions require so. His tour, in Sweden known as “Til Topps”, is the most popular gravel tour and already sold out for more than 15 years in a row. But now this tour is also available for riders outside Scandinavia, so it’s possible for you to find out what gravel riding in Sweden and Norway is all about!

Jes is a two metre tall Viking from Denmark. He loves nature in all its varieties and the challenges it throws at you. That being whether you travel by foot, on a motorbike, by kayak or on a bicycle. He loves the company of positive folks who are always able to make the best of things. Especially in moments where life or travels sometimes turns out differently than planned.

He might be kind and smiling, but years in the military and police has also taught him, when leadership is necessary to make things happen. Forty years on motorbikes and a life with serious memories from what the power of a motorbike can do to yourself, friends and family makes him care and pay attention to the more insecure and untrained in a group. He hates cooking but he loves a good whiskey..

With a degree in Industrial Design and Engineering she has been involved in various projects all over the world and is accustomed to and enjoy working in multi-national teams, where the ability to speak six languages has been an asset.

With a spirit of adventure, she can be found lots outdoors, driving 4×4’s round the world in the Land Rover G4 Challenge or speedboats through the South Pacific during the Camel Trophy. A yachtmaster since the age of 19, her passion for competitive sailing has allowed her to travel all over the world.

She recently also obtained her motorcycle drivers license, so we will probably see her more often on two wheels in the future.

Local guides – support crew

By making use of local guides and small local businesses and accommodations we try to stimulate the local economy as much as possible. And not only that: they have often much more knowledge of the area to be explored, which gives us the opportunity to get a more genuine experience!

Exploring the unknown..

Our approach

We do not organize minute-to-minute planned tours. We would like to give you a genuine experience and they are exploratory in nature, team-centric and flexible.  Challenges and hurdles can all be part and parcel but these make the journey more interesting and are often the best and most amusing parts when looking back.

At Explore360°, we put the structure in place to enable the group to have an amazing experience. Our founders military background ensures only the highest standards of planning and safety. We have contingency plans in place for most likely scenarios and prepared incident and emergency plans if something goes wrong.

 What we believe in:

– We believe in having a genuine experience. By exploring breath-taking landscapes, riding magnificent roads and maybe being a bit out of your comfort-zone or undergoing a culture shock. But simply always having good a time and fun will give you a once in a lifetime experience!

– We believe that motorbike travelling is for everybody! It doesn’t discriminate age, gender, sexual preference or type of bike and so on. You need a flexible, open-minded attitude and the rest will follow!

– We strive to make every Explore360°-experience a unique one! So no itinerary will be exactly the same. In this way it will also stay fun and exiting for us.

– We believe in small intimate groups who want to have fun and a great time together. Fun, not only while driving but also when not driving!

– We believe in having a support vehicle (> 4 persons). This provides more security if a bike brakes down or something else happens. And it gives you the opportunity to drive your motorbike in the most free way possible and enjoy it to the max!

– We believe in stimulating the local economy by making use of additional local guides and small local businesses and accommodations instead of big hotels.

Can I  join with my own motorcycle?

Your own or a rental motorcycle, all is possible! But it’s amongst others depending on the destined country and availability of course. But for some countries (like Iceland) we ship/transport your own bike but you can also rent a motorcycle. Just get in contact when you want to be sure!

Are all the routes pre-planned?

Within our itineraries there is place for flexibility and therefor we have scouted different alternative routes. Depending on your wishes, competence and/or weather conditions we offer the possibility to choose from these different routes, what to see and where to eat during the day. Where to sleep is being arranged, so you know where we’ll be at the end of the day. This is another story for our scouting trips though..

Is it possible to ride “two-up” / with a pillion?

This is depending on the destined country, the type of tour and your riding skills and experience. An All-road experience will generally go over asphalt and gravel roads, so a passenger could join on the bike. But some locations, or routes are less suitable for having somebody as a pillion. Just ask what is possible or not. Another option for your partner to come along, is to join in our support-vehicle (limited places available).

How do I get more info?

Simply e-mail or call us! You can also find more information in the different brochures (PDF). For a “reconnaissance-trips” (recce) we don’t have a brochure yet. Pictures will be taken, and information will be gathered during that trip.

How do I book one of the experiences?

Just fill in and sign the registration form and return it (signed) by e-mail or post. Read before booking the general and specific travel conditions.

What is the cancellation policy?

See the general and specific travel conditions for our cancellation policy. We do recommend that you arrange a travel and a cancellation-insurance yourself. Check your own (travel and/or house) insurance for the specifics.

Do you cooperate with other motorcycle tour companies?

We make sure that we at least have been one time ourselves to the destined country during our past travels or  a reconnaissance-tour. So we actually know how it is to travel there. For most of our tours we do the reconnaissance, planning, organising and guiding of our travels ourselves. Though, we do co-operate with other motorcycle tour companies and we might hire an additional guide, technician, support-vehicle driver or rent motorbikes locally. This is depending on the destination, type of tour and the size of the group.

How about a travel guarantee?

Explore360° has lodged security with the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (“Kammarkollegiet”). So you are protected under the Swedish law.
